JH Boys Track Wrap-Up
We wrapped up our junior high boys track season at the 5 Lakes Conference meet hosted at Inola HS. I am incredibly proud of the progress that we have made from the beginning of track season in March to now. Every morning before we run, jump, or throw, we would lift and the kids got after it! I think this played a big role in the strides that our kids made this season. Many of our athletes made new PRs in their events each time they competed at the various track meets with season ultimately culminating at the 5 Lakes Conference Track Meet and our best performance!
Both the 7th and 8th grade boys’ teams finished 4th overall. In the 7th grade the 400 meter relay team and 800 meter relay team (Zaden Simmons, Hayden Benefield, Shawn Kingfisher and Steven Vanzant) brought home bronze medals by finishing in 3rd place in both events. Zaden Simmons won gold medals individually in the 100 and 200 meter dash by finishing in 1st place, Shawn Kingfisher finished second place in the long jump, Braxton Mouse finished 3rd in the shotput, Conner Chancellor finished 4th place in the mile and 5th place in the 800 meter run. Orion Browning finished 4th place in the discus with Hayden Benefield finishing 6th in the 100 meter dash and Boston King finishing 6th in the Mile.
The eighth grade boys’ 400 meter and 800 meter relay teams (Standingwater Blakely, Jescee Sanders, Dylan Mills, and Nick McWhirt) finished both races in 4th place. Blakely also brought home 1st individually in the long jump and 100 meter dash. Jescee Sanders finished in second place in the long jump and 100 meter dash. Preston Waters finished 2nd in the discus and 6th in the shotput. Dylan Mills finished finished 2nd in the mile run and Sam Hein finished 5th place in the discus.
Overall it was a great year of growth for our athletes and we hope that we have sparked some real interest in track and field moving forward!
